Rekindle the Flame

By Dave Biter, Music Minister

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire; Jack Frost nipping at your nose. Just reading these words conjures thoughts of Christmas. Nothing feels better than a warm fire on a cold winter day. But here’s the thing, if attention is not given to that flame it naturally becomes a dim smoldering ember.

It’s the same with our spiritual lives. You commit yourself to reading your Bible and serving others. You encountered the Lord and hunger for more. This is what it feels like to have your heart on fire for God. But soon, you go back to your regular daily life and neglect that flame inside your heart. It’s been days or weeks since you have picked up your Bible and going to church seems more like a chore than a blessing of worship and fellowship. When we get so busy in our lives, the fire for God starts to dwindle.

As we celebrate this Christmas and look forward to 2023, let’s begin in some tangible way to tend this flame of faith. Reading the Bible and listening to God’s whispers to your soul can stir the embers of our souls. Allow God to throw another log on your fire. With time and attention you can rekindle that fire and it will burn bright again to comfort your life and others.
