Each year, Hickory Withe takes a love offering during Vacation Bible School. In 2023, we partnered with Pioneer Missions to build wells in Africa not only providing access to fresh water, but also the Living Water. Below is the testimony of Amanpreet, who found new life in Christ through the construction of a well.

“Through the construction of a water well by Pioneer Mission, I found the true living water in Jesus, and my life was transformed from rejection and despair to a testimony of God’s grace.

My name is Amanpreet, and I want to share the incredible story of how my life took a miraculous turn, thanks to the compassion and efforts of Pioneer Mission. I grew up in the midst of immense hardship, born into a family that viewed my existence as a burden. Rejected from the moment of my birth, I faced the harsh reality of poverty, the loss of my mother to cancer when I was just three years old, and the continuous rejection from those around me who deemed me a curse to the family.

Life took a tumultuous turn when I found myself married into a desperately poor family. My husband, unfortunately, was a man of little worth, constantly immersed in the dark abyss of drug addiction. He offered no support to our family, leaving me to toil day and night in the fields to eke out a meager living for our children. The lack of clean water compounded my struggles, forcing me to traverse two kilometers to a contaminated stream or canal for water, tainted by the harmful chemicals discharged into the river by nearby factories.

Amidst this difficult life, a glimmer of hope emerged when Pioneer Mission embarked on a noble mission to dig a water well near my home. It was during this project that I encountered their compassionate team, and my life began to change. The mission workers shared with me the transformative story of the Samaritan woman and introduced me to the concept of Jesus as the living water. I was deeply moved by their words, and a spark ignited within me to learn more about this life-altering message.

As I invited the mission workers into my humble home, they patiently prayed for me and continued to share the teachings of Jesus. Week by week, my heart opened up to the Gospel, understanding the profound sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and the promise that, through Him, I could become a child of God. I was touched by the grace of God, and my eagerness to delve deeper into this newfound faith led to weekly Bible studies in my home.

The culmination of this transformative journey was the construction of a water well by Pioneer Mission, providing a natural and clean water resource for my community. Through this tangible expression of love and care, I discovered the true living water in Jesus Christ. My life underwent a complete transformation, and I surrendered my heart to Jesus, finding redemption and purpose in Him.

I am eternally grateful to Pioneer Mission for being the vessel through which God’s love reached me. I am no longer defined by rejection, poverty, or despair.
