Albert Einstein was once the most famous man in America and was definitely considered to be the most brilliant person in the world. One day he was traveling on a train and everyone on board knew who he was. When the conductor asked, “May I see your ticket” this great man could not find his. Einstein shoved his hand into his coat pocket; and there was no ticket. His fingers felt the inside of each of his jacket pockets. Still— no ticket. The conductor stood there waiting, patiently, while the smartest man in the world rummaged nervously through his briefcase.
“Where did I put my ticket?”, Einstein mumbled to himself.
“Mr. Einstein,” the conductor said, “Don’t worry. I know who you are and I trust you. So, don’t worry about it.” And with that the conductor went his way punching the tickets of the other passengers. It wasn’t long before the conductor came by again as he passed through to go to another car. Professor Einstein was still on his hands and knees searching under his seat for his ticket.
The conductor quietly bent down and touched him on the shoulder. “Mr. Einstein, really, don’t be concerned. I know who you are and I trust you.” Einstein looked up — still on his hands and knees and said, “That’s not the problem. I don’t know where I’m going!”
Now think of it. The smartest man in the world didn’t know where he was going. The train was racing down the track and Einstein wasn’t sure where he was headed.
There are so many today in this similar predicament. It’s quite unsettling to be headed swiftly somewhere yet not knowing your destination. Life is like a train ride—swift and temporary…with each passenger arriving somewhere. SOMETIMES IT TAKES ONE SIMPLE PERSON, ASKING ONE SIMPLE QUESTION TO BE THE CATALYST IN SOMEONE'S THOUGHTS. One question can shift their attention from where they are to where they are going.
This month during our Equip classes, we will be teaching different methods of sharing the gospel. Great biblical teaching tied to practical methods of application and all of it to encourage you to step into someone’s life and speak truth. Get engaged and prepared to be that simple conductor who asks that one question that shifts attention from the temporal to the eternal.
